Two Legacies Meet Again

In 1957, my grandfather, Weldon Burgoon, opened a small western store in Denton, Texas. It wasn’t much at the start. Just a shop built on hard work, relationships, and a belief that if you took care of people, they would take care of you.
Back then, he tried to bring in Levi’s. They wouldn’t sell to him. He was too small. Too unproven. So he went with Wrangler. Unmistakably cowboy. Built for the people he was serving. And it turned out to be one of the best decisions he ever made.
Over the next 60 years, Wrangler became a cornerstone of Weldon’s. Not just another product on the shelf, but something customers trusted. Something they came back for. Year after year, the store grew into one of the top Wrangler dealers in North Texas, earning recognition along the way.
But the story was never just about denim. It was about people.
A Denton local named Doug Naylor started working at Weldon’s while he was still in high school. He stayed on through college, learning the business and building relationships. Through those connections, he found his way into Wrangler.

Today, Doug holds a leadership role within the company.
That’s how this works. Not transactions. Relationships that last.
When Weldon’s closed its doors in 2017, that chapter came to an end. But what it stood for did not. Wilkinson’s Fine Goods was built from that same foundation. The same standards. The same respect for the people who walk through the door.
For the past several years, we’ve focused on building something meaningful. Something that reflects where we came from and where we’re going. Now, nearly a decade later, it comes full circle. Wrangler is returning to our floor.
You can buy Wrangler just about anywhere. Big stores. Online. Fast and easy. There’s a place for all of that. But there’s also a place for something else. A place where the product means something. Where it’s tied to history, to people, and to a way of doing business that values relationships over transactions.
When you buy a pair of Wrangler jeans from Wilkinson’s, you’re not just buying denim. You’re supporting a family business. You’re investing in something built over generations. You’re helping ensure that stores like this still exist for the next generation. That’s the difference. Two legacies. One home.
Wrangler is back at Wilkinson’s Fine Goods, right here in Denton, Texas.
