A hunted hide carries a story worth keeping. Here is how we help you carry it forward, and what we will need from you before we can begin.
STEP ONE
It starts with the tannery
We are a leather shop, not a tannery. We do not tan hides in-house, so before we can build anything, your hide has to be professionally tanned and finished.
For alligator, the tannery we trust is American Tanning & Leather in Griffin, Georgia, one of the best in the country for gator. For other hides such as ostrich or elephant, you will need a tannery that specializes in that species. We only make a recommendation for alligator.
STEP TWO
Then we see it in person
Once your hide is tanned, we need to see it. What we can make depends entirely on the hide itself: its size, its quality, and its thickness. Every hide is different, so we cannot tell you what is possible, or quote a project, until we have it in hand.
That goes for custom Fenoglio boots too. If you are hoping for a pair from your hide, we inspect it first to confirm there is enough usable material and that it will work for boots.
STEP THREE
What it becomes
A large, clean, well-tanned skin opens up more options; a smaller or thinner one narrows them. Depending on what you bring us, that can mean any of the following, Belts, Bags, Watch Straps, and Small Goods, or a custom pair of boots.
Common Questions
Do you tan the hide in your store?
No. Hides have to be professionally tanned before we can work with them. We build from finished leather.
Which tannery should I use?
For alligator, American Tanning & Leather in Griffin, Georgia. For other species, you will need a tannery that handles that hide. We only recommend a tannery for gator.
What can I have made from my hide?
That depends on the size, quality, and thickness of the hide, so we cannot say until we see it in person.
Can I get custom boots from my hide?
Yes, through our Fenoglio custom program, but the hide has to be inspected first to make sure it will work.
